Hello World! (and so it begins)

Add asterisk on July 3 date

To you,

For years, I think I’ve been living two lives.

One of them is normal. Quiet. The one everyone can see.

The other one has been happening mostly inside my head.

In that world, I’ve written hundreds of posts. I’ve told stories no one has heard. I’ve had ideas, arguments, characters, opinions and whole paragraphs just sitting there, waiting for me to do something with them.

And then I didn’t.

Mostly because I was scared.

Scared they weren’t good enough. Scared people would think they were weird. Scared I’d finally put something out there and immediately want to delete it.

This post is me trying not to do that.

Not because I’m suddenly confident. Definitely not because I have everything figured out. But because I don’t think I can keep calling myself someone who wants to write if I never actually let anyone read the writing.

I don’t know where this will lead. I don’t know who will read this. I don’t even know if I’ll look back at this in a month and cringe slightly.

Probably.

But I do know one thing.

I want to be a writer.

Not just for school. Not just for university. Not just because someone has asked me to write something, fix something, or make their words look better.

This is different.

This is where I get to write what I actually want to write. No assignment. No brief. No pretending it is just some future idea I can safely keep in my head.

Actually.

So this is the beginning.

Messy. Slightly terrifying. Real.

If you’re here at the start, then I suppose you’re witnessing the moment I stopped only thinking about it, and started doing it.
